The Loonie Leads

The Canadian dollar (a.k.a. the Loonie) closed the trading session on Friday worth 1.0052 of a U.S. dollar (a.k.a. the Greenback). Now, according to satirist Stephen Colbert this is a terrible thing. It says that a loon has more significance on the world stage than the very famous first president George Washington. G.R. (note: for [...]

iPod Part 3

I am still quite excited about the podcasting world, and other sources of educational material, for my 36 hour old iPod. So far, I have subscribed to an item from Discovery Channel, several family related items, and the sermons from my former church in Winnipeg. I’ve already tried out and unsubscribed from several of the [...]

iPod Part 2

Well, it was a struggle, but I finally got this little beast set up the way I wanted it. One thing that I wanted to share with you is that these little MP3 players are for more than just music. Yes, I have a variety of tunes, from Celine, to Shania, Diana, Kenny G and [...]

It’s a bird. It’s a plane.

Well, look at that, it really is a bird! The Canadian loonie is on par with the U.S. greenback for the first time since 1976. (hmm, that’s the year I got married. hmm, I got married and the country fell apart) Now, when are prices of goods (usually priced at the wholesale level in U.S. [...]

A new study says that young women are more likely to attend and succeed at university. 39% of 19 year old women had attended and only 26% of 19 year old men. 30% of the women scored in the top quartile on standardized tests and only 20% of the men did the same. (why do [...]

iPod

I got an iPod today! Did not buy it. Received it as part of a promotion. Downloaded the software (48 MB !!!) and did the setup. Plugged it in to start charging. Started up iTunes (newest version) and within minutes it had crashed! Don’t you just love modern software?

Clueless

One of my children introduced me to the Clueless movie, starring Alicia Silverstone, who is now 30. I had a good laugh and enjoyed the movie. Her role in the Batman/Robin movie? Naw. Was not impressed. I must say, however, that I was a bit impressed by her appearance in a PETA (People for the [...]

Celebrities

Are celebrities really dumber (!) than the average, or does it just seem that way? Britney Spears has now been charged with not only hit-and-run (after banging into another vehicle in a parking lot) but she did not even have a driver’s licence!!!

Thirsty Thieves

Two truck trailers containing over 100,000 cans and bottles of Moosehead beer were stolen on Wednesday morning. I bet there will be some awesome parties this weekend!

Canada Post

Interesting item in today’s National Post about the Canadian Post Office. Antiquated equipment and inefficient processes. I have not been a fan of theirs for many years. For one thing, almost every time I’ve moved in the last 5 years, and paid $30 for a change of address service, they have messed it up. Do [...]
