Do Not Call

The Canadian Government set up a “Do Not Call” system, which, in theory, stops telemarketers from phoning you.

It probably works for legitimate telemarketing companies. The problem is that there does not seem to be much red tape for companies to get lists of people who do not want to be called. Let’s face it, a company needs that list in order to know whether to call you or not.

Some unscrupulous companies are registering for the lists (the administration fees charged are low) and then purposely call people on the list. It is against the rules, but these types of companies are already adept at disappearing when authorities come looking.
