More on the Train-Car collision

An experienced police officer, who has seen too many train-car collisions, gave suggestions to motorists on how not to be “pushed” into the path of a train. Here is my version of what he said.

When at a crossing while waiting for a train to pass …

  • avoid being first in line
  • if first in line, try to stop further back from the gates
  • turn your front wheels toward the ditch or other object to your right (better to be pushed into that rather than the train)

He said that you should be extra careful at night when there is a higher probability of a drunk driver coming up behind you.
