This is one of those, “You got to be kidding” stories. Apple had a policy that restricted sales of iPads to people with credit cards. The policy was there to stop black market sales of the highly sought after devices.
So, when a lady on a fixed income (and no credit cards) wanted to buy, she was told, “No”.
A local TV station came to her rescue and the publicity helped get Apple to change their policy. See details here.
