Poisons In Your Home

Most of us are unsuspecting chemical addicts, and one family is helping to educate us.

The Goode family are stars of the documentary Chemerical: Redefining Clean for a New Generation. For three months the Goodes were documented as they replaced all their cleaning products with the old-fashioned stuff: baking soda, vinegar, borax, and combinations of these basics, along with natural flavouring substances when needed.

The film is about the toxic chemicals brewing in most of our homes. Not the obvious ones with a skull-and-crossbones symbol. But the stuff we use every day, like shampoo, laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaners. Most are simmering with nasty things like triclosan, neurotoxic toluene, gender-bending phthalates.

Do you realize that Health Canada does not require companies to list ingredients on cleaning products? The assumption is that they are used in such low doses, they’re not harmful.
