We can all have a bad day

I was both surprised and saddened by the news that actor Owen Wilson attempted suicide the other day. I have enjoyed him in movies, and he seemed like a guy that was upbeat about life.

Now, everyone goes through rough times where we feel sad or down in the dumps. Actually, it’s pretty normal to feel that way on occasion. It is important that we know the signs of depression so that we can deal with it and have it alleviated.

In the meantime, some ways that I deal with these feelings are:

  • think about my grandchildren, and my opportunity to be involved in their life (there are also other family members you can think on, or close friends)
  • go for long walks and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation around me (not a walk in the concrete jungle, but rather one in a park or wooded area)
  • listen to inspiring music

If you are a person of faith, then that faith should be a defining support in your life, giving you the strength to battle the storms that come along. To be truthful with you, I find it difficult to comprehend a person battling these types of mental issues without an active faith. A good friend can help, but a proper relationship with our creator is a primary key to one’s life.
