Where is Bruce when we need him?

Have you seen the Die Hard movie with Bruce Willis, where he ends up chasing the bad guys into Canada and shoots at a hydro line, which then falls and helps destroy a helicopter? Awesome marksman, eh?

After an unfortunate incident in which an individual died after being tasered, a family member of the victim asked why the police did not just shoot him in the leg, or something. People who ask that question have watched too many movies. In the real life world of stress that police face, it is very unrealistic to expect them to hit a leg or arm or even shoulder. They shoot for the torso on purpose because under stress and the time constraints imposed by criminal situations, they cannot be expected to hit a smaller (and often moving) target.
