Play ball !

I was reminded today of my days as a minor league baseball coach. There were 2 concepts we kept trying over and over again to get the kids to understand.

(1) Decide who will be responsible for a situation. If the ball is hit right between two players, one needs to take the initiative to say, “Mine”, or “I’ve got it”. Otherwise they both expend a lot of energy to get it, only to collide with each other and let the ball get away.

(2) Be prepared. If you are in the field and the ball is hit toward you, you need to know ahead of time what you are going to do with the ball once you catch it. Deciding that while you are trying to catch the ball usually does not work out.

Sounds like life to me.

Think about it.
