The Greatest Speech Ever Made

Very interesting compilation of video footage, with audio by Charlie Chaplin. The speech is from the movie “The Great Dictator“.

The Great Dictator is a comedy film by Charlie Chaplin released in October 1940. Like most Chaplin films, he wrote, produced, and directed, in addition to starring as the lead. Having been the only Hollywood film maker to continue to make silent films well into the period of sound films, this was Chaplin’s first true talking picture as well as his most commercially successful film.

The audio from the movie is over 70 years old, and so much of what it says is still true. Man can be a despicable creature, especially in relations with others of the same species. I do not think the line from Genesis (specifically the word “subdue”) is being translated into action properly by many of us.

Genesis 1:28
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
